Left-back Mat Sadler has today agreed to join League One Walsall on a pre-contract agreement.

The 26 year-old has signed for Dean Smith’s side on a one-year deal having fallen out of favour at Vicarage Road.

Sadler spent last season on loan at League Two Shrewsbury and part of the previous campaign with Stockport County.

Signed in January 200 from Birmingham City for 750k, Sadler quickly dislodged Jordan Stewart in the side before Aidy Boothroyd’s departure prompted his downfall.

Never fancied under Brendan Rodgers or Malky Mackay, Sadler was left to rot with heavy speculation that he was sidelined due to an extortionate appearance fee.

Meanwhile, club-record signing Nathan Ellington last week joined Ipswich, re-uniting him with former boss Paul Jewell.

Ellington arrived in the summer of 2007 but never took off at Vicarage Road scoring just five goals in 20 league starts for the club.

The former Wigan hitman also spent time on loan with Derby County, Skoda Xanthi and Preston North End during his unhappy spell at the Vic’.

Good luck to both Mat and Nathan.
