Norwich City boss Glenn Roeder reckons Watford are the best placed team in the Championship geared up to make a proper fist of it in the top flight?and fully expects them to get promoted.

The former Hornets centre back had 3 mediocre years in the Vicarage Road hotseat – getting 139 games as manager under his belt between August 1993 and February 1996 – but is still insistent that the Watford set-up is ready for another shot at the big time.

He told a number of national red-tops “Watford play to their strengths and are probably the Championship team best-equipped to win automatic promotion. They cause teams a lot of problems with their power and pace?”

And as Roeder prepares to take his in-form East Anglian troops to battle in the Hornets nest tonight [Tuesday], the Canaries chief added “I think it`s a good game to going to Watford after not playing well at home and losing [to Blackpool], because you`re playing a team that I have said for a long time will automatically be promoted”.

There was also praise for the Hornets from another unlikely source in the Carrow Road ranks, with former Luton Town stalwart Gary Doherty who told the local East Anglian hacks “I think Watford are doing alright; they’re in a good position to chase and West Brom are in good form as well, so I’d expect those two to still be up there towards the end.”.
