New Watford boss Brendan Rodgers has only been in the Hornets hotseat for 72 hours but he`s already had to ask the Vicarage Road faithful to be patient with him.

Rodgers only took his first training session on Wednesday but he still saw his managerial debut end in a chorus of disgruntled boo`s after Doncaster dominated proceedings.

And some fans have been quick onto the local rag lambasting Saturday`s performance of ‘total football` as the ‘reminiscent of the dark days from Vialli`.

But Brendan has been quick to respond. On the spin machine that is the official club site, the new boss pleaded ‘We`re not going to change it over a couple of days. I only ask for a bit of patience from the supporters, which I`m sure they`ll give me’.

Um, well maybe but remember these are likely to be same set of fickle fans who bemoaned Boothroyd for his direct tactics?even when he was winning and winning well.

Rodgers, who saw his Watford side manage only 1 ½ shots on goal against a team stuck in the relegation zone, added ‘I thought [for spells] in the first half we did quite well and we passed it around, it`s [just] going to take a bit of time for the players to adapt to what we`re asking them to do.’

That`s all well and good Mr Rodgers but beware – Hell hath no fury like a Hornet fan scorned especially if ‘what we`re asking them to do` actually means taking 22 passes to get across the half way line or passing the ball any each way but forward on every occasion.
