It`s not that often that the dog-eared hacks down at some of Britain`s finest broadsheet newspapers sharpen their pencils to bring us Watford transfer gossip.

So when the Telegraph sports desk let us know that The Good Ship Boothroyd has reportedly shown interest in rock steady Estonian centre half Raio Piiroja, well we jolly well sat up and took note.

For those of you that aren`t up on your Estonian National football, Piiroja is a 28 year old centre half with 70 international caps to his name, who plays for Norwegian side Frederikstad (who beat Rosenborg 4-3 at the weekend).

He`s also the current Estonian Footballer of the Year, having wrestled the trophy from the tight grip of Mart Poom who has held the title since 1864!

Piiroja`s powerful figure and eye for goal – he scored a brace for his club as they won the Norwegian Cup 3-0 – has attracted the eagled eyed scouts from Derby and Sunderland of late.

With Watford desperately short of centre half cover and the obvious Mart Poom connection well it wouldn`t take some of Fleet Street`s brightest sparks to link him to the Hornets (why should the redtops have all the fun huh?)

But the UEFA.com official site says “he also possesses the forehead at which Estonia now aim their dead balls” which even in the VitalWatford book of tedious links makes him a prime Sir Aidy target!
