Despite the drop from his ‘keeper that cost Watford two points, Malky Mackay refused to blame Scott Loach for the Royals equaliser at the Madejski Stadium today.

‘Scott Loach did make a mistake for the goal but I told him he has saved us on so many occasions so get up and get on with it.

‘I am delighted with the progress he has made from a 17-year-old to an England under-21 international.

With regards to the result, Mackay toldSkySports News he was content:

‘When I look at the young group we have got and the resources available I have got to be happy with that.

‘We had three exceptional chances including one that would have been goal of the season for us if it had gone in

‘We had chances to make it two or three nil before Reading scored.’

Royals boss Brian McDermott labelled the result ‘fair’:

‘It’s been a frustrating time recently but I think today was a fair result,’ he remarked.

‘I thought Watford came with a good energy about them and played some good stuff in the first half when we weren’t at our game.

‘We didn’t do well in the final third and that makes such a difference. We had numerous crossing opportunities but didn’t make the most of those.
