Gianfranco Zola was left to rue Watford`s profligacy in front of goal after Tom Ince`s stunning solo goal nine minutes from time ended the Hornets` unbeaten start.

Troy Deeney missed a penalty after 14 minutes following a blatant foul on Almen Abdi, before Davide Faraoni and Diego Fabbrini both cracked efforts against the woodwork.

Paul Ince`s side were much improved after the break and having thrown son Tom on with 24 minutes to play, the much sought-after winger grabbed his second of the campaign to extends Pool`s unbeaten start.

Speaking to BBC Sport afterwards, Zola said: ‘I cannot believe we lost the game. Actually I can, it happened last season a few times. We had complete domination and then we got sloppy in the second half.”

The Italian continued: ‘It was like Millwall away last year, but even more so. This is the Championship, that’s why people say it’s such a difficult Championship.”

Zola did however find room to praise the Tangerines` match-winner, following another special strike.

‘It was a superb goal from a superb player, I don’t have any complaints. They scored a great goal and I was the first one to clap,” admitted Zola.

Seasiders` boss Ince was quick to admit that the visitors had been in charge for the first half, noting that the pendulum swung with the penalty miss.

‘If it had been a boxing match it would have been all over at half-time,” said Ince. “Watford were outstanding in the first half and if they had scored the penalty it would have been a different game.”

With injuries restricting the number of senior professionals available to him to just 14, Ince had to shuffle his pack: ‘We rode our luck and sometimes you earn your luck. When you have central midfielders, one at right-back and the other at centre-half, you’re going to ride your luck.

‘[Matt] Gilks made a fantastic save from a penalty. I couldn’t wait to talk to them at half-time. We showed them too much respect,” stated Ince.
