Grzgorz Rasiak has admitted he turned down the summer advances of Malky Mackay and the chance to sign up to be a Watford legend because of, wait for it… Brendan Rodgers

Yes, the Polish striker shunned a return to super stardom at Vicarage Road because of our former gaffer, who previously didn`t rate the former Saints striker and kept him in the Watford wilderness for months before suddenly changing his mind.

(Brendan Who? has a habit of doing that doesn`t he).

Rasiak, who joined that right Royal shower in Berkshire for a cut price £300K (what happened to the £750k that Saints were holding out for?), told the meddling folk at the Reading Gazette, that “one of the main reasons I came to Reading was because of the manager and coaching staff they have…”.

Crikey! So, nothing to do with them being able to offer you a sizeable 5-figure weekly wage packet then Grzgorz?

The former Derby, Spurs and Bolton striker confirmed that he “had a few options” – with Sheffield Wednesday, Swansea and Watford rumoured to be vying for his signature – and who can blame them. 10 goals in 14 starts for a struggling Watford side last season proves he is still a sharp Championship shooter with some pedigree.

And he admitted that turning down Watford “was a tough decision because I knew everyone there…”.

Ah, bless but clearly there`s no room for sentimentality in the Rasiak household.

Grzgorz, Grzgorz, Grzgorz – that Pole star is starting to dim slightly you know.
