Sebastian Prodl is rated on his defensive performance but the Watford man also got in on the goalscoring act in the 3-2 win against Everton on Saturday.

This has seen him earn the praise of his teammate Valon Behrami.

Prodl is someone Behrami works day in day out at training and believes the improvement has been noticeable with his leadership qualities in defence shinning through.

This is making him one of the ‘most important players’ at Vicarage Road. Behrami was quoted by the Hertfordshire Mercury as saying.

‘Sebastian is improving every day. It is not easy for a defender to come with the mentality of our coach because you have to lead the team from the back. He deserves it because he is working very hard every day and improving a lot and taking the leadership at the back. We need this kind of player and personality and I think one of the most important players for us.’

Prodl wasn’t the only one who gained praise from the Swiss international as he also had a word on Stefano Okaka following his brace.

He too has been branded as someone who could be important as the season unfolds. Behrami feels the goals were rewards for the effort 27-year-old Okaka puts in.

Behrami added.

‘He works very hard, he had a long injury and for a big man like him it’s not easy to be fit quickly. It took a bit of time, but it is difficult to move him because he is a big man. He will be important for us and I am happy for him because he works very hard and he deserved his goal.’

If Okaka continues to be the handful he was against Everton then Behrami is right – chipping in with goals will also help, even if they’ll not all be backheeled flicks like one of his efforts against the Toffees!
