So, £2m Tommy joins Pompey (and just about keeps hold of his legendary status for upsetting Reading) but it appears he`s not the only Hornet with his head being turned by the filthy luca on offer today at Fratton Park.

Oh no, just hours after news of a multi-million pound takeover at Portsmouth and towering Watford centre back, Mike Williamson, slaps in a transfer request after Pompey make an official swoop for his services?

?pssssh. We would have gotten away with it had it not have been for that pesky Sulaiman Al-Fahim!!!

Still, it`s all a bit worrying though. Big Mike`s only been here 2 minutes and already he wants rid. Well, that`s gratitude for saving him from a career in the lower leagues, for you. 4 years in the Wycombe wilderness before a 4 year deal with Watford and even before the ink`s dry, Willo wants to play big time charlie in the big league?

?is there no loyalty in football any more?

Thankfully, the very likeable Jimmy Russo has put Williamson back in his rather large box and refused his request to speak to the new money at Pompey but you do wonder if it`s only a matter or time before this becomes the latest saga to rock our Watford world!

What we don`t know is what kind of dent Portsmouth`s bid for Williamson would actually make in an instant savers account somewhere in Dubai. £3m? £4m even? Well, anything less than we`d expect the Watford board to dismiss it out of hand.

(Think Brum`s £5m move for Roger Johnson as a fair guideline – and Mike`s a better defender).

If the sale of Tamas Priskin to those Tractor Boys was “not for financial reasons” as we`ve been told by Mr Russo then there can be even less incentive to flog our best defender before the window slams shut.

With a bag load of man of the match awards to his name and, more importantly, a wage that works within the Hornets new structure, there should be no need for Watford to move Williamson on for anything less than 3 x his true market value – unless the new open, honest Watford board haven`t been so open and er, honest.

He certainly shouldn`t be seen as a poor man`s replacement for Sylvain Distin.

What we don`t know is the actual state of the club coffers at Vicarage Road these days.

However, here at VitalWatford, we have a sneaky feeling the speculation surrounding Williamson – be it Villa, Newcastle or those Fratton Park hijackers – could well give us a fair indication of where we stand.
