Shaggy haired Watford midfielder John Joe O`Toole is fast becoming an all round better player since he`s been on loan at Colchesterwell according to U`s gaffer (former Hornet boss) Aidy Boothroyd anyway – & guess what, he wants to sign him permanently in January!!!

Boothroyd – who has masterminded O`Toole`s career ever since giving him his big break in first team footie as a scruffy 17 year old at Vicarage Road 3 seasons ago – reckons the young irish scrapper has “become more aware” with “a big improvement in his mentality and tactically“.

The former Hornets gaffer told Colchester`s Daily Gazette “I`ve seen a big improvement in John-Joe since he has been at Colchester…he is only 20 years old and he has a massive future ahead of him”.

Hmmm, that may be so but you can`t help but feel that the only way O`Toole will get back into the Hornet reckoning when he returns to the Watford wilderness is to impress Malky Mackay with his improved range of passing. So it can only be good news then that Boothroyd insists that “…part of his development in coming to us is that his feet have improved.”

And for those that used to love John Joe`s headless chicken and wreckless tackling act – fear not. With 5 yellow cards in only 12 appearances whilst out at the Western Homes Community Stadium, John-Joe is clearly still kicking people and rattling a few cages…

No wonder Aidy Boothroyd calls him a “a horrible, physical presence”, a nasty player to play against” and “a brawler” then!
