Vital Watford get the views of Blackpool fan Tim Burnett ahead of Saturday’s visit from the Seasiders…

How has the season panned out in contrast to your expectations?

I think it’s fair to say we didn’t really have any expectations. Paul Ince had come in during February the season before and done an excellent job, making us tough to beat and steering us to safety after a disastrous few months post Ian Holloway’s and Michael Appleton’s departures.

We started the new season superbly, winning our first five games but ‘Pool fans knew we were riding our luck and the defensive, negative football was tolerated because we kept picking up the three points. But all was about to change…

Was sacking Paul Ince the right decision & how has Barry Ferguson done?

Without doubt it was the correct decision. The football was awful – the worst I have ever seen from a Blackpool side – even when we were winning the fans knew it couldn’t possibly last.

Ince always came across as arrogant and never accepted the blame for anything, thank God he has gone.

Barry Ferguson has done an OK job, things are much more positive but we are still in our winless run (extending to 16 games in all competitions), he’s brought in a few new players and I genuinely believe we will stay up, we just need a little bit of luck to go our way and to pick up a win, any win!

Barry Ferguson has come in and done an excellent job, our attacking football has started again and the football seems similar to Ian Holloway’s style

What went wrong for Ince?

Ultimately, Ince was a very limited manager with no plan B – rumour has it he was barely at the training ground and was happy to do as little as possible during the week.

His tactics/subs were generally awful and he showed zero positivity or desire – always happy to say how limited his squad was and that he ‘just wanted to get to 50 points’.

It was soul destroying to watch every week, especially after the football we had seen under Ian Holloway.

Why have Blackpool had such discipline problems?

It starts with the manager, Ince was given a five-match stadium ban for violent and threatening behaviour to the officials away at Bournemouth.

When the man at the helm has such utter disrespect for those around him, it is difficult to install much discipline in the players. That said, many of the red cards this season have been down to sheer stupidity as much as malice. Players making awful decisions.

Who will be your key man?

Our key man will be on the side lines coaching the team unfortunately.

Ferguson has been sorely missed on the pitch since he took over as interim manager. That said, our other standout player, Ricardo Fuller, should be in contention for a start after suffering a hamstring injury.

Fuller has been an absolute beast so far this season and one of the main reasons we started so well. If he plays, your centre-backs will know they have been in a battle come 5pm on Saturday.

Any injuries or suspensions?

Worryingly, both our full-backs are suspended. We have brought Kevin Foley in from Wolves on a month’s loan and recent signing Andy Halliday will fill in at left-back, but those positions are still a concern and have been all season. In fact, our defence has been worryingly leaky for some time after such a fantastic start.

Match prediction?

When you are on a run like ours it is very difficult to see where the next win is coming from, but what the hell, this is it. Our losing streak will come to an end, 2-1 to Blackpool (just don’t laugh to hard if we get battered 5-0)!
