Vital Barnsley ed. tyke-that gives us the lowdown on his beloved side

Vital Barnsley ed. tyke-that joins us today to provide us with some insight ahead of Saturday’s clash…

Second-half of the season, how did the first half go compared to your hopes and fears?

Well, after an initial poor start to the season we have gradually found our feet under Keith Hill. When all the lower league players started coming in the town was fearing the worst but the players and staff have far exceeded expections, and the sytle of football has been very pleasing on the eye. If not for a poor run of injuries and player loyalty then I am sure we could have had a play off push.

Was it a good or bad transfer window for the Tykes?

Awful, we lost Danny Drinkwater to Leicester, Ricardo Vaz Te to West Ham and if not for injury no doubt would have lost our captain Jacob Butterfield. Although, credit to Keith Hill, he seems to plan in advance as the new players, if a litttle short on match fitness looked exciting on Tuesday night.

How big a miss will Ricardo Vaz Te be?

Massive loss although as I say Keith plans in advance and I’m sure we’ll cope without him, seems a shame though considering we made him the player he is only to be left in the learch to go and warm the bench at West Ham but as I have touched on there’s no loyalty in football anymore.

Who will be the key man for Barnsley on Saturday and why?

David Perkins, having to step up to the plate no due to injuries and sales. Has had an excellent start to the season and seems to be another one of Keith’s lower league diamonds that he has polished up.

Keith Hill’s matchday attire – he realizes he’s a football manager not a farmer, right?

Keith can wear whatever he wants if he keeps doing the job he is doing, attractive football on a shoe-string budjet, can we really ask for anymore?. Although in fairness yes some of his clothing would be more at home on Emmerdale than on the touchline.

Where will you finish this season?

I’ll go 16th were a better team than last year and I cant see Keith resting on his laurals. So a comfortable 16th.

Match prediction?

1-1 – same as early in the season, although if you get one early we have really fragile confidence so it could be a cricket score; but I’ll go 1-1.

Cheers tyke-that, we know the feeling of losing star players after short spells with the club – you’re not alone sir!

I like Barnsley – they are one side I look out for a match day. Think it must be because I remember being sat in the away car park at Oakhill for 4 hours the season Wright, Smart and Kennedy got us promoted!

Coldest ground on earth, etc, etc. A real indicator of how far both sides have come since the game at Oakwell in September. Let’s have another three please Watford!
