Watford have announced the signing of left back Tom James following a successful trial at the club on a short term contract until January. The deal includes options beyond the initial term of the contract.

James, 22, has been on trial with the Hornets during pre season and featured for an hour of their penultimate pre season game at Brentford. He also played 90 minutes in a behind closed doors game against Sunderland.

He had previously been playing ninth tier football with Stratford Town in the Midlands Football Alliance four tiers below the conference.

Hornets boss Sean Dyche told the official website ‘Tom’s a late developer but he has shown enough over the last few weeks to warrant a deal’.
