Austrian international centre-back Sebastian Prödl has signed a five-year deal with Watford, after the Hornets have beaten off interest from several Premier League and Serie A clubs.

The 27-year-old was at Werder Bremen previously, but was out of contract at the end of the 2014/15 season, and he has chosen to sign on with the newly-promoted Hornets.

Prödl appeared in both the Champions League and the Europa League during his seven years at Bremen, as well as winning the German Cup in 2009.

Standing 6ft 4, the central defender is understood to be very good in the air as well as with the ball at his feet. He looks to intercept passes and play the ball intelligently, but may lack a bit of pace compared to some of our other defenders.

With 49 caps for his country, Prödl is a very experienced centre-back who, at 27-years-old, should hit his prime with Watford, should he stay for the majority of his five-year deal.
