Experienced goalkeeper Manuel Almunia has provided Hornets fans with further good news this evening, signing a brand-new 12 month deal to remain at Vicarage Road.

Almunia, 36, had been out of contract WD18 as of June 30, but has tonight committed his future to the Golden Boys by inking a years contract.

The Spanish gloveman – who frequently captained the ‘Orns last term – was in fine form following his move from Arsenal, chalking up 43 appearances and 11 clean sheets.

Only a fine display between the sticks at Wembley from the former Gunner was enough to take the Play-off Final to extra-time against Crystal Palace; that after Almunia’s heroics in the second-leg win over Leicester City had catapulted the Hornets to the showpiece final.

Speaking to the official site, Head Coach Gianfranco Zola revealed his delight at getting the deal concluded: “His experience and influence are so important for us and the impact he had at Watford last season was magnificent.”
