Despite what the sports desk at the Sunday People may claim, former Aston Villa, Newcastle and West Ham winger Norberto Solana is not ‘poised for a free transfer switch to Vicarage Road`.

In fact, the Peruvian paceman has signed a lucrative deal with little known Greek side Larissa FC after missing out on a move to join David Beckham and Ruud Gullitt at LA Galaxy (all thanks to MLS red tape).

Solano had been keeping fit with the Hornets at their training complex in London Colney during pre-season whilst his dream move to the States was being thrashed out.

Norberto told Peru newspaper El Comercio (via Setanta Sports) “It was a joint decision with my family and that is why I am going to Greece. I`m happy with the decision. It perhaps is a club that is a little unknown to everyone in the football environment of South America but here in Europe and, especially in the Greek league, it`s an important club.

Ah, so the dream of a big name signing at Watford is over for another summer then!
