Newcastle will table one last-ditch offer for Adrian Mariappa before switching targets, according to the Journal Live.

The Magpies had a paltry £700,000 offer turned down earlier in the week and despite strong rumours, are yet to return with a second bid.

However, with the January Transfer Window closing in four days time, the Tyneside outfit are keen to close a deal for Hornet’s academy product.

The Journal Live say that Newcastle are reluctant to meet Watford’s valuation of £4m because Mariappa ‘has never played in the top-flight’.

Twenty-five games during the 2006/07 season including two against the Magpies would say otherwise though!

The Sun also says that Mariappa will hand in a transfer request in order to force through a deal. I for one have doubts that Mariappa is even remotely that kind of player though.
