Neill joins for remainder of the season

Watford have this evening announced the signing of experienced defender Lucas Neill, who joins for the remainder of the season subject to international clearance.

The Australia captain, 35, who last played for Omiya Ardija in Japan’s J-League, had been training with the club for the past week and has done enough to earn a contract for the rest of the season.

The signing also comes with centre backs Fitz Hall and Joel Ekstrand ruled out; Hall with an injury and Ekstrand with suspension after he picked up his 10th yellow card of the season on Saturday.

Neill has a lot of experience in England having played for Millwall, Blackburn Rovers, West Ham United and Everton previously.

The Sydney-born defender will be hoping to use some of this experience as the Hornets look to end the season on a positive note.
