David Gauke, MP for South-West Hertfordshire, has filed an Early Day Motion to congratulate Aidy Boothroyd`s Watford on gaining promotion to the Premier League.

The Conservative MP, who was elected to the House of Commons in May 2005, took the time to acknowledge the club`s achievements in getting promoted to the top flight of English football for only the third time in their history.

His Motion read: “This House congratulates Watford Football Club on its promotion to the Premiership following its 3-0 victory over Leeds United at the Millennium Stadium on 21st May 2006; further congratulates the manager, Adrian Boothroyd, all the players and staff, directors and owners on Watford’s success over the course of the 2005-06 season; welcomes the anticipated boost to the town’s profile and economy that Premiership football will bring; and wishes them all well in the Premiership next season.”

So far 18 elected representatives have signed the Motion ranging from Respect MP George Galloway to Lib Dem MP Bob Russell, who successfully campaigned for Darts to become recognised as a sport.
