Watford have now slipped to fourth in the Championship after failing to break down a resolute Millwall in a scrappy encounter at The New Den.

The Lions were on top for the first twenty minutes with ?keeper Ben Foster, on a season long-loan from Manchester United, being forced into action to make a stop from Millwall midfielder Tony Craig. With twenty minutes on the clock, former Watford striker Bruce Dyer headed a cross from the right that saw Foster beaten, fortunately for Watford the ball hit the upright. Skipper Gavin Mahon had the visitors? best chance just before the break but shot wide of an open goal. Watford made a change just before the interval with Alhassan Bangura replacing wide-man Anthony McNamee.

The second-half was a livelier affair with Watford being the better side. Watford missed a golden opportunity to take the lead on sixty-five minutes with Darius Henderson heading a Matthew Spring cross at the feat of Millwall?s on-loan ?keeper Colin Doyle. With ten minutes left on the clock, Watford?s leading goalscorer Marlon King shot wide of the far post.

Midfielder Matthew Spring and defender James Chambers both picked up their fifth yellow card of the season and will miss the F.A Cup Third Round clash at home to Bolton Wanderers.
