Mazzarri – I’m Not Thinking About My Future

Walter Mazzarri, despite the thrashing at Leicester on Saturday, insists his own future at Watford isn’t something he’s thinking about no matter the ongoing speculation he could be sacked in the summer?

Last week Watford, along with a couple of Premier League rivals, were linked with an interest in Hull’s Marco Silva, who could well part company with the Tigers regardless of what happens in their battle against relegation.

His prime objective was to collect 40 points when Mazzarri became the latest occupant of the Watford hot seat, which it quite literally has been for most those who have been in charge at Vicarage Road before the Italian.

With that achieved he’s happy enough, but admitted he was ‘disappointed’ and ‘sorry for our fans’ following Saturday’s 3-0 defeat at the King Power Stadium saying, when quoted by the BBC, his young squad were punished for ‘stupid individual mistakes.’

Mazzarri said: ‘We are disappointed and I’m sorry for our fans. I am very sorry to lose 3-0 against this team. They punished us for stupid individual mistakes. You wouldn’t commit these mistakes if you had more experience. We have a very young squad.’

Technically Watford can still be relegated, the likelihood of this is pretty slim though. As regards to his own Hornets future Mazzarri insisted he wasn’t concerned.

Adding: ‘I am not thinking about my future. We managed to get to 40 points with six matches left, that was our objective, maybe the players were a bit tired.’

Continuity is needed, Watford can’t keep hiring and firing a boss on a seasonal basis, if they even last a season, with Mazzarri probably deserving a second season in charge at least. Consistency would be a must next term though wouldn’t it, then again with the Pozzo’s you never know what will happen, so it isn’t certain he’ll get that chance?
