Head coach Walter Mazzarri has hailed the performance of homegrown Brandon Mason as Watford booked their place in the next stage of the FA Cup over Burton Albion on Saturday.

Welcoming the Championship side to Vicarage Road for the third round tie, Watford took a two nil victory on the day with goals coming from Christian Kabasele and Jerome Sinclair in each half, but for Mazzarri as he spoke to Sky Sports in his post game press conference it was Mason that took the praise for his sterling debut on the day.

‘Mason played wonderfully on his full debut with an assist for the goal. We had Mason with us when we did pre-season. With young players it’s very important for them to be with the first team and to make their debuts because this will make them grow as players. Sometimes it’s fundamental to see what we’ve got at home in our own house and make these young players grow so that we don’t always have to go abroad and sign players for a crazy amount of money.’

As for the game itself, our performance and the FA Cup he was obviously delighted to have seen the side return to winning ways and book our place in the fourth round draw on Monday evening.

The game was our first win since December 10.

‘I like the FA Cup because it’s a tournament that’s highly considered in the UK. But most of all I like that we managed to win and that we also had a good performance. My players played very well. We didn’t take many risks and we managed to control the game very well. I’d like my team to always play in this way.’
