Stalwart Adrian Mariappa has this afternoon won the coveted Watford Observer Trophy, crowning him Player of the Season.

Mariappa beat second-placed Troy Deeney and third-placed John Eustace with ease to claim the gong.

The Harrow-born centre-back has been in imperious form from day one this season and deserves the award for his cool, calm and commanding displays at the heart of defence.

Twenty-five year-old Mariappa becomes the the 40th recipient of the award, taking over from last years winner, Danny Graham.

Mariappa has made 41 league and cup appearances for the Goldenboys this season with his solitary goal coming the memorable win over Leicester City.

The centre-back will end the season just four starts short of his 200th league start for the Goldenboys having made his debut in 2005.

Congratulations Adrian, and please stay this summer!
