Speaking to SkySports News afterwards, a delighted Malky Mackay spoke of his pleasure at watching his youthful charges dismantle Derby:
‘We are good in form. There’s an awful lot of hard working going on in there, we’ve got a bit of belief and there’s momentum building.
‘There’s a lot of youngsters there who are growing in confidence and their experiences every week, they’re learning from and that is something that is really pleasing to watch.’
The Scotsman also went on to praise his sides ability to close the game out at 3-0, something they haven’t always found easy:
‘I think in the second half we had to make sure we went out there and did a job and made sure we nullified the game and stopped the threat and we did that.
‘That’s something I’m even more delighted about, the way they’re learning to see a game out and come away with the result we did.
Rams manager Nigel Clough was less than impresed by a ‘mad nine minutes’ that cost his side a shot at the spoils:
‘It’s a nine, 10-minute spell and the game’s over.
‘There was nothing in the game over 90-odd minutes really, we just made some errors today and they certainly punished them.
‘It was similar to the game at Pride Park in some ways. We ended up 4-1 winners that day, it flattered us a bit and probably the same today.’
Watford now head to faltering Cardiff City in Wales looking to add win number eight to their impressive sequence of results.
