It has emerged today via a number of sources that Newcastle boss Alan Pardew has identified Watford manager Malky Mackay as his second choice of assistant for the St James’ Park club.

Pardew, already turned down by his first choice for assistant and former Hornets boss Ray Lewington, has turned to Mackay to fill the void.

Mackay has out himself in the shop window by taking a young Watford side and matured them into a good championship outfit with very limited resources.

At present the club have confirmed that there has been no contact from Newcastle and I’m sure fans will hope that continues to be the case.
