Braveheart Watford boss Malky Mackay has praised Nathan Ellington`s “great work ethic” but the future still looks unclear as to whether Duke will remain in WD18.

Ellington got a run out in the Hornets first pre-season match in the 4-1 win at Borehamwood on Saturday amid speculation that he might just be back in the reckoning at Watford but Mackay was quick to suggest that clubs are still free to come in for him.

Speaking to fans via a webchat on the ever so popular Watford Observer site, the Hornets gaffer said “[Nathan] realised at this stage of his career he has to be playing first team football and to that end has to be fit in the coming weeks should a club come in for him”.

But Mackay was quick with the compliments of a player now regarded as one of the biggest flops in Watford`s history. He added that Duke “has trained well in the first two weeks” and insists “he has shown a great work ethic” – something a lot of Watford fans will be surprised to hear.

Will Ellington stay at Watford, well you just never know. Mackay confirmed that “absolutely Tamas will be here” but with Robinson moved on and the future surrounding Rasiak “unclear”, Duke might the man for the job.
