Young forward Britt Assombalonga snatched the headlines once again as he bagged his fifth goal for Southend United.

In the week that the 19 year-old attacker extended his loan stay at Roots Hall, Assombalonga helped the Shrimpers on their way to victory over Cheltenham Town.

Jermaine McGlashan had the Gloucestershire outfit ahead before goals from Sean Clohessy, Assombalonga and Mark Phillips turned the tie around.

Paul Sturrock’s side are now unbeaten in five, with four wins in that period.

Elsewhere in League Two Adam Thompson got 72 minutes for Wycombe Wanderers in their 3-1 defeat at the hands of Chesterfield.

The Northern Ireland U21 international was replaced with 18 minutes to go by striker Oliver Taylor for his professional debut as the Chairboys chased the game.

Finally, Dale Bennett was left out of Wimbledon’s squad altogether for their 2-1 reverse at home to Rochdale.

The lad certainly has an eye for goal and given time I hope he is given a chance at the club.

Bennett seams to be having a hard time settling in at the original Dons…

I think a season away on loan will do him the power of good, really get 30-40 games under his belt, grab as many goals as possible & come back a stronger player ready to challenge for a place. If he comes back now he’ll be wasted.
