Matt Jackson must be fearing for his future at Watford after being left out of the first team squad touring party that has departed for a training camp in Dubai.

The former Everton, Norwich and Wigan centre back was left at home to marshall a reserve side full of Academy scholars through a 2-1 defeat to Wycombe whilst his teammates sunned themselves in a 4-day ‘reward` break in the Middle East.

Despite turning out 11 times for the Hornets so far this season, Jackson has fallen fast out of favour at Vicarage Road with the likes of Leigh Bromby and Calum Davenport (loan) coming in whilst the likes of Lloyd Doyley, Adrian Mariappa and even the unfit, weary legs of Malky Mackay have been drafted in at centre back.

And by all accounts Jackson has struggled to acclimatise to the “Watford Way” since signing a reported £10k a week 2-year deal in the summer – well according to the Watford Observer anyway!

Jackson was dished out on loan to Blackpool, hauled off at half time in the 4-1 home defeat defeat to QPR and hasn`t even made a matchday squad this year and he admits he`s not taken his chances when they`ve been on offer. He recently told the Watford Observer “I knew my chances were going to be limited. I was pleased with the performances against Stoke and Sheffield Wednesday but there have been 1 or 2 disappointing ones”.

Hmmm. Maybe there was a reason Wigan only offered a 1 year deal to a guy with bags of experience after all.
