Hornets gaffer Aidy Boothroyd may be hoping to have goalkeeper Mart Poom back in the frame for the visit to Palace on Monday night to give him a ‘selection headache` but Richard Lee is eaglerly eyeing an extended stay in goal.

Talking to the very informative bods down at the Watford Observer, keeper Lee said “I like coming into the side and doing well but I want an extended run in the first team – that`s why you play football. I don’t want to be labeled as a number two”

The 25 year old Oxford born stopper, who has been between the Watford sticks just 49 appearances in 6 years, has been instrumental in the Glory Hornet Boys securing 2 clean sheets in their last 3 games since replacing back injury victim Poom at Scunthorpe.

Whilst Lee`s shot stopping and attitude has never been under the microscope, The Good Ship Boothroyd has questioned the keeper`s distribution in the past but admitted of late “He (Lee) looks very confident at the moment. He is practising his kicking and he`s getting distance and accuracy BUT we are throwing it out to the full-backs more than we ever have done”.

Yes Aidy, we might not be smacking it aimlessly long from the keepers hands in the rough direction of peroxide head of Hendo at every opportunity but you`ve got to ask yourself – Is that such a bad thing?
