Hornets? hitman Marlon King has won the Championship Powerade Player of the Month award for January.

The free-scoring forward played a vital role in the defeat of arch-rivals Luton Town, set up all three goals which saw the Hornets victorious over promotion-rivals Norwich City in the five-goal thriller at Carrow Road and was one the scoresheet in the 4-1 demolition of Crewe.

The Jamaican international was chosen ahead of the short-listed David Nugent (Preston), Marcus Hahnemann and Phil Jagielka (Sheffield United). Chris Kamara, Chairman of the Powerade Player of the Months Awards Panel, commented: ?Marlon?s all-round game has been impressive in the past few weeks. ?He has really been making things happen and creating lots of chances for his teammates which is the sign of a quality striker. ?I?m sure Aidy Boothroyd will be hoping for more of the same as the business end of the season approaches.?

The former Notts Forest striker, who looks a real transfer coup at £500,000, told watfordfc.com: ?For me, though, it shows how well the team is playing as a whole that I?m able to be chosen for an award. ?All the boys are doing their bit.? The King of Vicarage Road added: ?Hopefully there?s many more of these awards to come ? not just for me but for the other boys. ?That will be the sign we?re heading for the Premiership which is what we are all aiming for.?
