New Hornets loan star Jack Cork has revealed that he turned his back on Southampton to sign on at Vicarage Road because Watford “wanted him more”.

The on-loan Chelsea lad gave an impressive debut in the drab 1-0 cup with over Scunthorpe but his switch to WD18 has sent shockwaves down the South Coast with fans stressing it spells relegation – “suicide” even.

Saints didn`t hide their desire to extend Cork`s stay at St Mary`s but the England U21 international hints that Jan Poortvliet and his team just didn`t show him enough love, insisting “Watford seemed a lot keener than Southampton were on keeping me”.

Speaking to the Daily Echo, Cork insisted “I always had my options open over what was going to happen in January and I was stuck between whether to stay at Southampton or come to Watford”.

He added “?it came down to how much Watford wanted me”.

Clearly young Jack made the right decision to be reunited with his former Chelsea reserve team mentor Brendan Rodgers but, hey, we would say that.
