Despite his 70 or so league appearances for the Hornets, left back Jordan Stewart demanded “more consistency” out of himself in preseason. Well don`t we all!

So the VitalWatford boys are happy to let Jordan know that he was ‘Watford`s Actim Index Player of the Month` for August after picking up an impressive 75 points.

Stewart, who netted his first goal for the Hornets in the 2-1 opening day victory over Wolves, is ranked 8th in the Championship stats and is the only player in the August Actim Index Top 10 who is defensively minded.

Good work Jordan.

A gold star and place at the VitalWatford Top Table will also go to Mart Poom, who finished the month as the Championship`s Number 1 keeper (and 21st on the overall table).

August`s data saw strikers Leon McKensie (Coventry), Gregor Rasiak (Saints) take the top 2 spots whilst Coventry`s goalscoring midfielder Michael Doyle (Cov) picked up the bronze medal. Early form of front men Alan Lee (Ipswich), Andy Gray (Burnley), Martin Paterson (Scunnie), Lee Trundle (Bristol City) was also rewarded.

We are, however, somewhat baffled here at VitalWatford Towers (and trust us, we don`t do ‘baffled that often) to see that James Beattie has sneaked in at Rank 9 on the Actim Index despite the fact that Danny Shittu had him well and truly in his pocket for 90 minutes at the Vic.

Maybe you score points for ‘not getting a kick` and ‘making little contribution to the game`. Strange.

he Actim Index is the official player ratings system of the Barclays Premier League and Coca-Cola Championship, which has been statistically proven to identify the best players. It is compiled and distributed by PA Sport.
