Scunthorpe match winner Paul Hayes may well have hammered another nail into the Watford play-off coffin with his bullet header on Saturday but the striker has backed Aidy Boothroyd to get the Hornets promoted!

The East London-born frontman netted his 6th goal of the season to give Scunnie the away day points but still insisted he`s “glad we won and I got the goal, but deep down in a way I wanted Watford to win because I want them to go up.”

Hayes was a trainee at Carrow Road when Boothroyd was learning his trade as Norwich youth team boss and the former Canaries youngster added “I had a strong relationship with [Boothroyd] and I hope in my heart of hearts that Watford go up through the play-offs”

And let`s face it, the 24 year old Scunnie striker knows a thing or 2 about the end of the season lottery. Hayes fired Barnsley to Play-off success in 2006 – scoring in both the semi-final win over Huddersfield and at the Millennium Stadium v Swansea.
