WATFORD GOT their unlikely Play Off bid back on track with a convincing 3-0 trouncing of Ipswich Town at Portman Road on Tuesday night.

The much maligned Troy Deeney handed the Hornet`s the lead after just three minutes. Danny Graham snatched his fifth in as many games just after the hour and Don Cowie completed the job in the 90th minute.

With nine to play, Watford move up to eighth, just four points behind sixth-placed Nottingham Forest. Seventh-placed Burnley do have a game in hand on the ‘Orns though.

‘Orns gaffer Malky Mackay re-called full-back Adam Thompson after the injury to Lee Hodson on Saturday meaning Lloyd Doyley shuffled over to left-back. Deeney and Ross Jenkins both continued in the starting line-up.

Ipswich left new signing Kieron Dyer on the bench but were able to bring experienced Irish full-back Mark Kennedy back into the starting eleven.

Watford opened the scoring after just three minutes when Danny Graham headed towards goal from a short-corner. The ball was not judged to have crossed the line at the time and so Troy Deeney bundled home from close-range.

Hull loanee Jimmy Bullard came close to levelling for Town when he whistled a free kick just over from range, Tamas Priskin had already flicked a header over from close-range.

Will Buckley missed a sitter for the Hornet`s having been fed a perfect pass by Graham the winger mis-controlled and only fired into the side netting from inside the six yard box.

It was then Danny Graham`s chance to miss when well-placed as he nodded Adam Thompson`s centre wide from impossibly close-range at the far-post.

The Goldenboys pressure did eventually tell as Graham coolly finished on his left after John Eustace`s slide-rule pass had put him one-on-one with the last defender.

Don Cowie wrapped up the points in the 90th minute when he fired past Marton Fulop from range.

Ipswich Town starting XI: Fulop; Edwards, McAuley, Delaney, Kennedy; Martin, Bullard, Leadbitter, Drury; Wickham and Priskin.

Watford starting XI: Loach; Thompson, Mariappa, Taylor, Doyley; Eustace (c); Deeney, Cowie, Jenkins, Buckley; Graham.
