Odion Ighalo might not be a Watford player next season, at this moment he is.

The striker has been selected as one of the three overage players going to Brazil for the Rio Olympic Games, however after being persuaded to take part this could be blocked by Watford.

As things stand, assuming the 27-year-old doesn’t leave Watford anyway, Ighalo would miss the beginning of new boss Walter Mazzarri’s first season in charge as he would be away with Nigeria in August.

Nigeria’s Head Coach Samson Siasia reportedly talked Ighalo around when they met in London but as things stand Watford have not given him permission to play in Brazil.

But it has been quoted, by a reported source close to Ighalo, on All Nigeria Soccer.

‘At this stage, Watford have not given him permission to play for Nigeria in Brazil.’

There’s no question, for various reasons, in an ideal world we wouldn’t want the striker to go to Rio but we’ll have to see how this unfolds.

Also how his future with us pans out too.
