Watford boss Aidy Boothroyd has struggled to hide his frustration at missing out on striker Heider Helguson, after the Icelandic international agreed to join Bolton on a 3yr deal.

The Hornet’s guvnor told the official club site ‘I’m disappointed because we’ve chased him for a long time. I tried to keep it to myself and we finally got into a position where we could speak to him but he didn’t want to come as he’d already signed for Bolton’

Helguson, who scored the winner at Stoke to secure Watford’s place in the Championship during Aidy’s first few games in the Vicarage Road hotseat, was heavily tipped for a move to West Brom earlier this summer in a ‘cash + player’ deal for Diomansy Kamara.

Dr Watford says:
Whilst Heider is a Watford legend and his aerial threat would have given the Golden Boys a Plan B for the coming season, fans would have needed to warm to the Iceman again given his over elaborate goal celebrations in the 3-3 draw with Fulham at the Vic last season
