Watford could swoop for talented Welsh international midfielder David Edwards from arch rivals Luton in the January transfer window as the exit door gradually creeps open at The Kennel.

The News of the World suggest that the Hornets are ready to pounce for the 21-year old engine room general after the cash strapped Hatters declared they`d have to sell off some of the crown jewels in order to pay players wages.

The loss of Edwards, who is also a target for Nottingham Forest, would be a cruel blow for Kennel boss Kevin Blackwell. The ex Shrewsbury man – signed for a hotly disputed £400k last summer – has shone this season with 4 goals, has netted 5 times for the Wales U21s and made his senior international debut against Germany in November`s 0-0 draw.

After the departure of Gavin Mahon to QPR, Aidy Boothroyd is short of a holding midfielder to put a bit of bite back into the middle of the park and Edwards does seem to fit the bill.
