One of the few bright sparks in England’s 1-0 win over a poor Austria side was the performance of Ashley Young.

The young winger who came on as a second half substitute has been in flying form for Martin O’Neill’s Aston Villa and his second full call-up brought his first full cap for McClaren’s men.

Despite being in the best financial state in a long time, the 300k that Villa will now pay Watford will be very welcome all the same.

Young, 21, is the first Watford player to play for the full England side since John Barnes in the 80’s and 90’s.

As I have often said, having seen’s Young’s full Watford debut 4 and a half years ago, you wouldn’t have thought back then he’d be sold for 10million and have won a full England cap to boot.

Let’s hope his younger brothers are as good as they’re hyped up to be!
