The Watford board`s relentless verbal battle with Reading has continued this evening after chairman Jimmy Russo hinted that the right royal shambles at the Madjeski have been tapping up Tommy Smith.

Earlier in the day, Brendan Who? told the Berkshire sports hacks that Smudger “wants to be [at Reading]” and that Smith “has turned down a number of moves”? Rodgers might not have an ounce of integrity or a scrap of loyalty but boy, has, he got some front.

And it`s that front that got right up the nose of the Watford board who have issued a hard hitting statement, with the Hornets head honcho questioning “as to how Brendan knows Tommy`s future intentions”!!!

Russo says he is “disturbed and disappointed” by the actions of the “very disrespectful” Reading gaffer and confirmed that no-one from the Madjeski has received permission to speak with Smith?

Though Russo isn`t saying that Smith ain`t for sale mind you. He added “Unless we receive the appropriate valuation for Tommy, through the correct channels, then we intend to keep the player at the club, this I can guarantee 100 per cent”.

So Reading know that if they want Smithy they will have to fork out an extra £1.1m on top of their “derisory” “750k initial joke of a bid to get him.

A case of shut up and shows us the colour of your money or a clear case of tapping up then for the FA to investigate?? Here at VitalWatford, we`ll let you decide!
