Henderson feels there is light at the end of the tunnel, saying: ‘We have a strong belief before every game. If we didn’t we would be doomed already.

‘If we haven’t got the belief and we can’t see ourselves staying up, then it won’t happen. We are still in with a chance and we will give it our all.

‘We have the desire and fight to get out of this. We have got to fight now otherwise we will find ourselves going down.’

Meanwhile, the striker is reveling in his hero status for the time being, adding: ‘It’s been nine months since I tasted this feeling, so I’m really going to enjoy the moment.

‘The manager keeps picking me and the fans have kept singing my name, so I must be doing something right, although I would be lying if I said I hadn’t suffered any flashbacks or nightmares about some of my early-season misses.’
