Mixed news from the Icelandic press this week regarding Watford’s favourite Icelandic son.

Legendary striker Heidar Helguson has confirmed that although Watford are in talks [according to the Watford Observer anyway with his parent club Q.P.R about extending his loan spell, he doesn’t expect it to go ahead.

‘I do not expect other than a return to QPR in the New Year when the loan agreement runs out. I have not heard that there are any negotiations in progress. I would love to stay with Watford and be them contracted with them, not to be on loan, but I think however that there is not the money in Watford to buy players.’

Helguson is well-down in the pecking order at Loftus Road, but his reported 18k a week wages will be a massive stumbling block for Malky and the Russo’s will no doubt want to keep the purse strings well and truly tightly closed.

There is some, slightly hopeful, talk of a swap deal involving Nathan Ellington and H as Jim Magilton is a known admirer of the hapless forward.
