Goalkeeper Huerelho Gomes has said that Watford approached the game against Everton differently this weekend.

Hosting Roberto Martinez’s side at Vicarage Road for the game, Watford played out a one all draw and the end to the first half with Everton taking the lead in stoppage time, before Watford levelled a little bit deeper into stoppage time – well it was a game many thought would have more strikes in the second period but it wasn’t to be.

For Gomes, he felt it was a far better approach on the day overall from Watford that helped them to a point in the encounter, and he credited the improved confidence and passion from the side given previous back to back defeats.

Speaking to the Official Site in his own post game press conference, the stopper explained.

‘I’m pleased to help the team, but the most important thing is how we approached the game today and I believe in the game before there was a little bit of a lack of confidence and desire, but we did things differently today. Unfortunately we didn’t come out with the three points but against a good side like Everton a point is a great result.’

He went on to add about the balance of the game, that for him it was a fair point overall and of course it was pleasing to bring that run of defeats to an end.

‘I believe it was a fair point. They had chances, we had chances, they took one opportunity but we took our opportunity as well. When you play at home you want all three points, but we need to be honest and Everton are a very good side as well. You could say in the dressing room after the game that the boys were very pleased with their performance today, and we needed to push ourselves. We know that we have quality, we showed that in so many games during the season, and we cannot lose our passion, because I believe our game is about passion.’

With clear improvement on show compared to recent performances, he went on to say that everyone had had a little heart to heart and a pep talk from Quique Sanchez Flores during the week was definitely of benefit to them.

‘We had a meeting during the week, the manager reminded us how we played the first half of the season, how is our game, how is our passion when we approach the game, and we needed to do more of that. We lost that in the last few games but we came again today and we showed the character that we can continue to do that. It’s not an easy stage of the competition, I’ve been in this competition many times and I know that at this stage it’s very difficult to keep going, but we showed that we can finish this season strong.’
