Stefano Okaka has admitted to mixed emotions following the weekend’s defeat to Southampton, especially as Watford now go into a fortnight gap in the fixture list.

Speaking to the Official Site looking back on the four three defeat at Vicarage Road, Okaka explained.

‘I was happy to score because I thought now we can win, because we played good football but after five minutes we conceded another unlucky goal. This is football and now it’s finished, so we must do something good against Crystal Palace in our next match. At this level you work so hard to score one goal so to concede four goals like we did is so sad, but it’s finished and we have to carry on and work harder for a result next time.’

Okaka’s interview questioning didn’t end there, as the Watford Observer also carry his comments on the frustration of us now having to wait a fortnight before we next play in the Premier League owing to the Chelsea game being postponed following their continued involvement in the FA Cup this season.

‘Two weeks is too much, after this game you want to play tomorrow to get some points. We have to work and wait and at Crystal Palace we will have to give everything and fight, like we did against Southampton, but we have to improve defensively.’

Southampton was of course Okaka’s first start since January and he knows he’s struggled this year with his fitness and he admitted he’s never had quite a year like it when it came to niggles and knocks in his career so far.

‘The first injury, it can happen. But another, after Everton, was unbelievable. I was back, played well and then missed another two months. I’ve ended up having three pre seasons, in the summer, after West Ham and Everton. My injury stopped me. I have been out for a long time since Everton, I work with my leg so it’s good news for me.’
