Adam GriffithsAidy Boothroyd`s 3rd signing as Watford boss – has let fly at the quality of the football he endured in England, after returning to ply his trade in the Australian A-League.

Griffiths was picked up by Boothroyd whilst playing for Oostende in the Belgium league, but was released by Watford just 6 months after arriving at Vicarage Road with a handful of reserve outings to his name. But the Aussie centre half insists the style of football played during his time did him no any favours!

The strapping centre half told the Australian press “Playing in the lower leagues in England, it`s route one football and I wasn`t enjoying it?It`s a cut throat industry. If you get injured, like I did, they just bring another player in and move you on”.

Whilst Boothroyd will always comment the 6-month deal offered to Griffiths was just ‘an extended trial period`, the lofty Australian defender “didn`t come up to expectations” of the Hornets coaching staff and was sent packing to join the likes of Bournemouth and Brentford.

Yet Griffiths reckons he`ll now blossom away from the direct nature of English football as he stars for Newcastle Jets and even has aspirations to earn international caps.

He added “Now I can get back to playing football and, if I concentrate and do well enough, hopefully I`ll end up playing for the Socceroos”

Strewth mate!
