Despite FA Cup semi final disappointment, had coach Quique Sanchez Flores said he was happy with the competitive nature of the squad in the game against Crystal Palace.

Losing two one at Wembley, the Watford Observer have the gaffer saying that come the second half and getting back on level terms, he was actually unsure on who might kick on and get the winner as he felt both sides were pretty level.

‘I think we were very competitive in the match. It was very difficult to recover after the first goal of Crystal Palace. We needed to take time to recover a little bit. It took us ten or 15 minutes to recuperate the team. But then I thought we recovered well and got into the match again. We competed well and created attempts in the second half with more spirit. In the second half it was difficult to know whether Crystal Palace or Watford were going to reach the final and finally it was Crystal Palace.’

He added.

‘Congratulations to them. They have a very good team, a very good manager and they have very good power in the last third which was decisive in the end.’

With the build up to the game dominated by future talk surrounding his job, he also said it had disappointed him because people should’ve been focusing on the Wembley trip – but he didn’t believe it had been a distraction for the players.

‘I have not understood what has happened this week. You think it is time to talk about the coach when you are playing a semi-final? I know what I have told my club and what people have told me. I am a little bit sad in the week because I didn’t understand why people was talking about me. When people should be happy I don’t know why people talk in this way. I understand these thing. It is not necessary. I don’t think I am undervalued. if someone need reasons to be happy, and they are not happy for me that is a disappointment. Wee are happy in the squad, me and everyone is happy. The feeling is Watford is safe and that is very important. We do not have reasons to talk about me. If the club want to talk to me I am open but we will see but it not necessary to talk about me.’

Saying specifically about the chairman.

‘I have an idea about what is a good season for Watford but I don’t want to justify. You want to enjoy this occasion. The owner was working really well since the last three years. It is working really well, we discuss a lot of things during the season. I don’t have anything to talk about with the owner.’

Going back to the game, despite the disappointment, he also said he had no time for negativity, because for him things were very positive at the club.

‘The players feel positive. Everyone is disappointed but we need to be realistic. No one expected us to be in the semi-final. When we started the season the main target was to stay in the Premier League. That`s the most important thing for Watford. We need reasons to be happy, to be positive. I don`t see why we have to be negative.’
