Head coach Quique Sanchez Flores has been speaking ahead of this weekend’s game against already relegated Aston Villa, and the gaffer has confirmed the speculated break clause that is in his deal with the club.

With plenty of talk about Flores’ future, and the club themselves not saying he will be with us next season but that talks will be had over the summer when the campaign is over, Sky Sports have him quoted as saying the following in response to questions.

‘I never plan long for anything as I know how life moves and because life is full of surprises. I need to transmit my happiness for the fans, my family, and security for my players. I cannot lose time thinking about the future in football. It’s a clause at the end of the season that means we need to talk again. So at the end of the season we will talk again. It’s an option and when you put this kind of clause in the contract, it’s for both parties. So you need to be clear and to see the things in the same angle.’

With Flores himself only being appointed last summer, and becoming the fifth head coach in two years at the club, he admitted he knew what he was walking into so he’s going to be proud of his achievements this year whatever happens.

‘Of course I saw that. When I sign with a club I check everything, every condition. I felt really safe thinking about coming here. I felt we were able to do the objectives. My work this season is not done as we have four matches more. I’m not going to justify the season. I have experience in football and I feel happiness around Watford. The way people read the season, it’s impossible to say. What I understand is as a human being when you reach objectives, you want more. That is sometimes possible, sometimes it is not.’

Watford fans will simply have to see what the summer brings when those talks are had and decisions are made.

Getting to Wembley for the FA Cup semi final and keeping us up this year, despite less than hoped for Premier League form since the turn of the year, surely has to play in his favour though.

Especially the signings made for next summer already.
