Blackpool’s interim player-manager Barry Ferguson says the ‘quality’ of the goals his side conceded against Watford is a ‘major concern’.

The Hornets took advantage of lax Blackpool defending to race into a 3-0 lead by half-time, adding a fourth after the break following an improved start to the second-half by the visitors.

Ferguson introduced midfielders Neil Bishop and Chris Basham and the Tangerines enjoyed a better first 20 minutes of the second period before Beppe Sannino’s Hornets assumed control again.

Speaking afterwards to Sporting Life, Ferguson said: ‘We simply were not good enough. We got beaten by a better team.

‘What’s been said in the dressing room will stay inside those four walls but you can pretty much guess what has been said.’

The Scot lamented the quality of the goals the Hornets had been gifted by his side, with the first and third goals benefitting from appalling passages of play.

‘The quality of the goals we conceded is a major worry. All I can do is put together training sessions and work on things like corner kicks and free-kicks and go from there,’ admitted Ferguson.

‘You can go through things as long as you want, but if you don’t pick up your man they will score goals and that’s what happened.’

Ferguson continued, questioning his own position as interim manager at Bloomfield Road: ‘If I can’t motivate a team then I’ve got a major problem as well.

‘I need to look myself in the mirror and say ‘can I really do this job?’ People tell me I can, but you need to ask them (the players) that. They’re all huge games coming up, but if we play like that we’ve got no chance.’
