Les Ferdinand has quashed rumours that he is ready to just walk into the first team despite being tipped to make his first start since joining on non contract terms last month.

Ferdinand scored for the reserves last week in a 3-1 win over Coventry. The 38 year old is slowly stepping up his fitness and completed an hour for them.

However he told the official site that he isn’t expecting to be an automatic choice for the first team. ‘I signed on the basis that if the team were in trouble and the manager needed to me to play, I would do so. It wasn’t that I signed and I was hoping to play the next week. People may have got a little bit excited and got the wrong end of the stick.’
