Watford have knocked back an official approach from Everton for head coach Marco Silva.

Speculation has been rife the last few days that Everton wanted Silva as Ronald Koeman’s replacement at Goodison Park and even though he became the bookies favourite as odds shortened, media close to Watford were holding to the line that Silva himself wasn’t interested in the job and he had no intention of leaving the club.

As was expected though Everton firmed up their interest in him late yesterday evening and made an official approach for permission to speak and that was knocked back.

The 40 year old was appointed at Vicarage Road over the summer after he impressed with Hull City last season, albeit not gaining the results he needed to avoid the drop, but Watford have had a brightish start to 2017/18 taking 15 points from their opening eleven games and Silva’s stock continues to rise.

Following the knock back it remains to be seen if Everton return.
