Lloyd Doyley looks set to sign a new deal with Watford which would see him remain at the club until summer 2015, the Watford Observer reports.

The Watford Observer understands that the experienced defender, who made his debut for Watford in September 2001, will sign a contract extension with the club in the coming days.

Hornets fans will be pleased to hear that earlier reports from Udinese-affiliated Tutto Udinese appear to have been true, with the Italian website reporting the contract talks just over a week ago.

Doyley’s time at Watford Football Club began at the age of nine, and the one-club man has remained at Vicarage Road ever since, playing under no less than eight managers since his debut in a 3-3 draw with Birmingham City under Gianluca Vialli.

Since his debut Doyley has been deployed in all positions across the back line, with arguably his most suited role being on the right hand side of a back three, where he has been positioned for much of this season and last within Watford’s preferred 3-5-2 formation.

Lloyd Doyley’s performances this season have been of a consistently high standard, which is reflected in his appearance tally so far which currently stands at 23 in all competitions, despite the unusually large number of centre backs on professional contracts within the squad.

His 23 appearances this term has seen Doyley’s total appearances rise to 432, making him joint seventh with Arthur Woodward on the club’s all-time list.

We hope to bring you news of Lloyd Doyley signing his contract extension with Watford in the coming days.
